Nine year-old Kristen lives in a house with her mom, Caroline, on Kalamazoo’s west side. Last year, Kristen’s parents separated and her dad is avoiding child support. Caroline, a nurse’s aide, tries to make ends meet but is falling farther and farther behind.

On the advice of a friend, Caroline contacted HRI and received help with her mortgage payment. It was enough to stabilize her finances so she and Kristen could remain in their home.
